How do I set up rotating menus?

Rotating menus let you build reusable templates and assign them to a repeating schedule, so customers automatically see the right menu for each upcoming delivery period.

Steps

1. Open Menus, then open the Templates tab.
2. Click + New template, enter a template name, and click Create.
3. Open the template, click + Add products, choose the meals that belong in the template, and remove any products you do not want included.
4. Optional: to auto-fill orders when a customer hasn't chosen, turn on slot-based auto-assignment in Menus > Settings. It assigns meals based on the Menu # slots each customer picked previously (see "Auto-assign on renewal").
5. Create one template for each reusable menu you want in the rotation.
6. Open the Rotation tab and check Enable automatic menu rotation.
7. Choose the Period structure: Whole week for one menu per week, or Tue-Thu + Fri-Mon for two menus per week. For Whole week, the cycle start date also determines which weekday the menu week starts on.
8. Set Cycle length (weeks) to control how many weeks are in one full rotation before it repeats.
9. Set Upcoming periods shown to customer to control how many future weeks customers can see in the widget and customer portal.
10. Click Pick cycle start date and choose the first date in the cycle. The date must match one of the period start days shown by the selected structure.
11. In Slots, assign a template to each week and period in the cycle.
12. Review the Preview table, then click Save rotation.

Frequently asked questions

What is a menu template?

A template is a reusable group of meal products. Templates are not tied to a calendar date until you assign them to rotation slots.

What is a slot?

A slot is one position in the repeating cycle, such as Week 1 / Whole week or Week 2 / Fri-Mon. Each slot can point to one template or be left empty.

What happens after the cycle ends?

The rotation repeats from the first slot. For example, a 4-week cycle starts again at Week 1 after Week 4.

Can I use rotating menus and manual weekly menus together?

Yes. Manual weekly menus take precedence over rotating menus. Use a one-off manual weekly menu when you need a holiday menu, special event menu, or temporary seasonal menu for one period.

What happens if a slot is empty?

Customers may see an empty menu for that period. Assign a template to every active slot unless you intentionally want no meals shown for that period.

Why is Save rotation disabled?

Check that rotation has a cycle start date, the start date matches the selected period structure, and the slots match the selected cycle length and period structure.

Will changing templates affect future customer choices?

Template changes affect future menu periods that use that template. Customers or billing records with already saved selections keep the selections that were stored at the time they saved or were billed.
