How do I show product tags on menu cards?
Turn on Menu card tags to surface each product's Shopify tags as pills on the storefront menu cards (for example High Protein or Chef's Choice). Tags are read from the product when you add it to a menu and refreshed automatically whenever you edit the product in Shopify.
Steps
- In Shopify, add tags to each meal product (Product organization → Tags), e.g. High Protein, Chef's Choice.
- In the app, open Menus, then the Settings tab.
- Turn on Show product tags on menu cards and click Save.
- Add the products to a Weekly Menu (or Template) — their tags are pulled in at that point and shown as pills on the storefront card.
- Products already in a menu pick up tags the next time you add them; editing a product's tags in Shopify updates menus that already show it automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Which tags are shown? How do I hide internal ones?
By default every product tag is shown. To limit it, fill in “Tags to show” in Menus → Settings with a comma-separated list — only those tags appear on cards (case-insensitive), so operational tags like “menu7” or “Menu 2” stay hidden. Leave it empty to show all. Changing the list updates every menu instantly; you don't have to re-add products.
Do tags update when I edit a product in Shopify?
Yes. When you change a product's tags in Shopify, any menu already showing that product refreshes its tags automatically. Nutrition details (calories, protein, fat) are set up separately — see “How do I show calories and macros on menu cards?”.
Why don't my existing menu items show tags?
Tags are attached when a product is added to a menu, so items added before you turned the setting on won't have them yet. Click “Apply to products already in menus” in Menus → Settings to backfill every menu and template at once — you can re-run it anytime to refresh.
Do I have to turn this on? Can I turn it back off?
It is off by default, and cards look exactly as they do today until you enable it. Turning it off again immediately hides all tags from the storefront menu — you don't have to undo anything on individual menus.
