How do I sell the same menu in different sizes or tiers?
Make the tier (size, level) an option on your meal plan product instead of adding size variants to every dish. The menu stays identical for everyone; the plan a customer picks tells you which size to prepare, and each plan-and-count combination carries its own price.
Steps
- In Shopify, give your meal plan product two options: a plan option named after your tiers (for example The Cut, The Gain, The Titan) and a meals-per-week option (for example 2 to 14).
- Set a price on every combination — the tier difference is priced here, not on the dishes.
- Keep your dish products simple: one product per dish, no size variants. Every customer sees the same menu.
- In Meal plans, connect the product and set Max meals selectable for each variant.
- Read the plan on each order (for example '10 meals / The Titan') to know which size to prepare.
- With guided start enabled, both choices become wizard steps automatically; customize each option's display label and subtext on the Guided start page.
Frequently asked questions
Should I add small/medium/large variants to each dish instead?
Usually no. Size variants on every dish multiply your menu cards and complicate pricing. If the tier decides the size of every dish in the box, put the tier on the meal plan product and keep dishes single-variant.
How do I know which size to cook for an order?
The subscription and every order carry the plan variant the customer chose (for example '10 meals / The Titan'), so the tier — and therefore the size — is on the order itself.
Can tiers stand for something other than size?
Yes. To customers the plan option is just a label — it can mean portion size, calorie level, or any preparation difference, as long as the menu itself stays the same for every tier.
