Can customers see Servd in French, Spanish or Korean?

Yes, from the Growth plan — French, Spanish or Korean. In Settings → Customer languages, choose the languages your store sells in. Servd then shows its own words on the menu page and the customer portal in the customer's language, and the dates it adds to your emails in your default language. Your own text — menu and dish names, section names, Guided Start questions and email copy — is shown as you wrote it, so write it in your customers' language.

Steps

  1. Open Settings and find Customer languages.
  2. Check every language your store sells in: English, Français, Español or 한국어.
  3. If you check more than one, choose the default language.
  4. Save, and wait up to one minute for the storefront to refresh.
  5. Open your menu page in each of your store's languages to check it.
  6. In Customer emails, write your email text in your customers' language. The default templates are in English.

Frequently asked questions

Which language does a customer see?

The language they are browsing your store in, when it is one you checked. Otherwise they see your default language. With only one language checked, everyone sees that one.

What does Servd translate, and what does it not?

Servd translates its own words on the menu page and the customer portal — buttons, counters, notices, dates and error messages — and the date tags in your emails. It does not translate anything you wrote: menu and dish names, selection section names, Guided Start questions and answers, your email subject and body, or your product names. Customers' Shopify account pages follow each customer's own account language.

How do the date tags in my emails work?

{{charge_date}}, {{delivery_date}} and {{delivery_when}} come in your default language. With more than one language checked, each other language gets its own copy — for example {{charge_date_fr}} — so an email written in two languages can show the date in both: "Charged on {{charge_date}} / Prélevé le {{charge_date_fr}}". Those extra tags appear in the email editor's list of merge tags.

Do I have to translate the default email templates?

Yes. The default templates are in English; edit the subject and text in Customer emails. Only the dates and phrases Servd inserts follow your languages.

What if I never change this setting?

Nothing changes: Servd stays in English for your customers, exactly as before.
