My product page has no subscribe option

Most themes render no subscription selector of their own, so a meal plan product can look like an ordinary one-time product. The Purchase options block adds the one-time / subscribe choice with prices, and hides itself on themes that already have one.

Steps

  1. Open Getting Started and click Add purchase options — it opens your theme editor with the block ready to place. If your plan sells both one-time and subscription, this step is required to finish setup: without a picker on the page customers can only subscribe, because most themes show no purchase options of their own. If your theme already renders its own picker (or is too old to accept app blocks), use 'My theme already shows purchase options' to move on.
  2. Or do it by hand: Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → Customize, open a product page, then under Product information choose Add block → Apps → Purchase options.
  3. Drag the block where you want it, usually just above Add to cart.
  4. Press Save in the theme editor.
  5. Open the product page and check that both options appear with the right prices.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need this block?

Only if your theme does not already show purchase options. Shopify's free themes (Dawn, Trade, Craft, Refresh and the rest) do not, so most stores need it. If your theme does show them, the block detects that and stays hidden — adding it is never harmful.

It doesn't appear in Add block → Apps

Your theme's product section has to accept app blocks. Themes from the Shopify Theme Store are required to, but a heavily customised or older theme may not. Contact us and we'll give you a snippet to paste into the theme instead.

Why does the product price at the top not match?

It should: selecting a subscription rewrites the theme's price to the subscription amount with the one-time price struck through, and picking one-time puts it back. If your theme already does this itself, turn off 'Update the product price' in the block's settings so the two don't fight.

Can I change the wording?

Yes. Select the block in the theme editor to edit the heading, the one-time and subscription labels, the footnote, which option is selected by default, and whether to show the savings badge.

The block shows nothing on my product page

It only renders on a product connected in Meal plans, and only when that product has a subscription plan. On every other product it renders nothing on purpose. Check Meal plans to confirm that this exact product is connected and active.

Can customers choose without a product page at all?

Yes. Turn on Guided start → Purchase options step and the choice becomes the first step of the guided flow, so a single 'Choose my meals' link at /apps/menus serves one-time buyers and subscribers alike. Use the block when customers arrive on your product page, the guided step when you send them straight to the menu — the two can both be on.
