Refunds update Meal Demand and packing slips
September 9, 2026
Refunding a customer in Shopify used to change nothing on this side. The delivery stayed on the prep sheet, printed a packing slip, and counted toward the week's meals — so a kitchen cooked a box nobody was waiting for, and there was no way to say otherwise: Skip only exists before a charge. Servd now sees the refund and acts on it.
What it is
Refund the order in Shopify exactly as you do today. There is nothing to do in Servd — the delivery updates itself within a few seconds.
A FULL refund marks the delivery Refunded. It leaves Meal Demand, it is left off the packing slips, and the week's order and meal counts drop it too. The customer has their money back, so nobody is expecting that box.
A PARTIAL refund marks the delivery Partially refunded and changes nothing else. Refunding the shipping, one add-on, or a goodwill amount does not mean the customer stopped wanting their meals — the box is still made, still shipped, and staff can still edit what is in it.
Both show as their own status in Orders, and both are in the status filter, so a refunded week stays easy to find. The row is never hidden: it is marked, not deleted.
Why it matters
A customer cancelling at the last minute is ordinary, and the merchant's answer is ordinarily a refund. Until now that left the two numbers a kitchen works from — the dish counts on Meal Demand and the packing slips for the week — quietly overstating what had to be made, with nothing on screen to say so.
The distinction between a full and a partial refund is made by Shopify, not guessed from the amount. Two partial refunds that add up to the order total leave the order fully refunded, and Servd reads the order's own status rather than adding up what it has seen.
Your revenue figures are deliberately left alone by both. A refund issued after the box has shipped is a cost of doing business on a product that was delivered, and reported revenue keeps counting every charge that produced an order.
Nothing here touches the Shopify order. The refund, the money and the order itself stay entirely in Shopify — Servd only stops treating that delivery as a box to make.
How to use it
Refund in Shopify admin as usual. Full or partial is your normal decision; Servd follows whichever you make.
Check the delivery week on the Orders page if you want to confirm. A fully refunded order shows as Refunded, the week's order and meal counts above the table have already dropped it, and Print packing slips leaves it out.
If the customer wants a different week rather than their money back, skip the upcoming delivery instead — that moves the box rather than removing it.
This applies to refunds made from now on. A refund you issued before today is not picked up, so handle those weeks as you did before.
