Pre-charge and payment-failed emails
August 20, 2026
Customer emails now covers more than the welcome email. Merchants can remind subscribers before an upcoming renewal and notify them when a payment fails, while keeping the final payment update step inside Shopify's secure customer flow.
What it is
The pre-charge reminder is an editable customer email sent ahead of a subscription renewal. It can include the upcoming delivery week, the customer's selected meals and add-ons, and the store details you already use in Servd.
The payment-failed email tells the customer what happened and sends them to Shopify's payment repair experience, so the card update stays secure and familiar.
Why it matters
A reminder before renewal gives customers a chance to check their meals before the charge runs. That lowers surprise charges and gives merchants a cleaner support trail.
A focused failed-payment email keeps recovery simple: customers do not need to ask support for a link, and merchants do not need to handle payment details directly.
How to use it
Open Customer emails, choose the template, edit the subject and body, and use preview or send test before saving. The pre-charge reminder can be switched on with a lead time that fits your production schedule.
